Small Gestures, Lasting Hope
Have you ever wanted to share God’s love with someone but didn’t know how to start the conversation? Maybe you’re shy, or the words just don’t come easily. A small gesture can be a beautiful place to begin.
A sister in Christ shares encouragement by handing out little wooden crosses, Scripture cards with personal notes on the back, and handmade crosses tucked into small pockets with a message inside. Each one offers a simple reminder: you are loved, and you are not forgotten.

There are also little Jesus figurines you can give someone or leave, with permission, for another person to find. I’ve come across them on tables, on store shelves, and even in public restrooms. Something so small can bring an unexpected moment of encouragement.
We never know what someone is carrying. The person smiling at us may be grieving, feeling alone, or struggling to believe their life matters. Some people are hurting deeply while doing everything they can to keep anyone from noticing.
We may never know what our kindness means to them. A note, a cross, or a simple reminder of God’s love could reach someone on a day when they desperately need hope.
And kindness doesn’t have to involve giving something away. Saying hello, offering a sincere smile, or telling someone, “Have a blessed day,” can open the door to connection. If they want to talk, taking the time to listen can mean so much.
We are the church, and we carry opportunities to love people wherever we go. That love belongs in our everyday lives—in the grocery store, at work, and in the ordinary moments when our paths cross someone else’s.
If you are hurting and reading this, please know: you are loved. You have worth. You do not have to hide your pain behind a smile or face it alone. Let someone you trust know what you’re going through. You deserve care, support, and someone who will listen.
If you’d like ideas for small things you can share, I’d be happy to pass along my list. There are options for different budgets, including simple, inexpensive things you can make yourself. You don’t have to spend much to offer meaningful encouragement.
May you have a blessed day—and may we each notice an opportunity to share a little love and hope with someone along the way.
These are nice. Where can I get these items from. I think that is a great idea.
